1 person killed in road accident in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, Jan. 4 (EMN): One person died on the spot and nine others injured in a road accident at New Medical Ward, Changtongya town in Mokokchung district on Tuesday.

Mokokchung Traffic Police informed that a Tata Sumo carrying 11 persons, including the driver, plunged approximately 60 feet below the National Highway-2.

Changtongya Police Station OC KP Lotha informed that the ill-fated vehicle was on its route from Tobu (Mon district) to Mokokchung when it met with an accident at around 8:30 am.

It was reported that a 21-year-old man died on the spot while nine passengers, who sustained serious injuries, were immediately rushed to Community Health Centre Changtongya, approximately half-a-kilometre away from the accident site, for first aid.

The injured persons were later shifted to Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, Mokokchung, Lotha said.

The officer added that the driver was missing at the accident site during the rescue operation by the police and local volunteers and could not be traced till the time of filing this report.

‘A case has been registered while investigations have already been launched; MV requisition has been requested to ascertain the cause of the accident,’ Lotha informed.
