13th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy underway
MOKOKCHUNG — The 13th edition of the Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy 2024 commenced on Wednesday at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Mokokchung in the presence of Imtipokyim, president of the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA), as the guest of honour.
In his address, the MDVA president highlighted the significant role of the Luke Sasong Sporting Association (LSSA), which is affiliated with MDVA. He noted that, under the aegis of the Mangmetong Students’ Union, the LSSA has taken volleyball under its wing, nurturing numerous talented players over the years.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the tournament, the MDVA president encouraged the participants to exhibit true sportsmanship and athletic excellence in each match, urging them to let their skills and teamwork shine on the court.
He also emphasised the importance of commemorating the legacy of Luke Sasong through this tournament, calling on the community to come together to create an unforgettable experience. He noted that the spirit of friendly competition and unity fostered by the event would inspire future generations.
A total of 12 teams are vying for the prestigious trophy, including participants from Kohima, Wokha, and Dimapur. In the first match, MH 10 Kohima triumphed over their arch-rival, the Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA), with scores of 25-21 and 28-26.
