DIMAPUR — A total of 22 startups in Nagaland have been recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) as of 2023, showing an increasing trend compared to seven startups recognised by DPIIT in 2022.

This was informed by the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasad, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on August 9.

In 2023, 22 DPIIT-recognised startups in Nagaland reported the creation of 268 direct jobs, while in 2022, seven DPIIT-recognised startups created a total of 71 direct jobs.

According to the Minister, the DPIIT has recognised 140,803 entities as startups and stated that, since the launch of the Startup India initiative in 2016, DPIIT-recognised startups have created over 1.55 million direct jobs as of June 30, 2024.

Furthermore, the Minister mentioned that, as of June 30, 2024, as many as 67,499 DPIIT-recognised startups have at least one woman director.

The Government unveiled an Action Plan for startups, which includes schemes and incentives designed to create a vibrant startup ecosystem in the country.

The Action Plan comprises 19 action items across areas such as “Simplification and handholding,” “Funding support and incentives,” and “Industry-academia partnership and incubation,” the minister added.
