22nd NSF MMT: Headhunters trounce Chedema United 8-0, FIFA beat Nagaland University 6-0

Kohima, Oct. 19 (EMN): Defending champions Headhunters FC thrashed Chedema United FC 8-0 at the ongoing 22nd NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy being organised on the theme, ‘goal for peace’ by Angami Students’ Union on Wednesday at IG Stadium in Kohima.
Dominating the game during the first pre-quarter final match, Headhunters scored a hat-trick through Samson following captain Haotinmang’s opener in the 18th minute.
Chingsha and Pursunep scored a brace each to seal the victory for Headhunters, a team of the 164 Territorial Army stationed at Jakhama, to enter the quarter-final round.
VisanyĆ¼zo Kuotsu, the patron of 22nd NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Tournament handed the man of the match award to Samson of Headhunters.
FIFA FC defeated Nagaland University Students’ Union (NUSU) KC with a comprehensive margin of 6-0 during the second match of the day to advance to the quarterfinals.
Scoring machine L Benjohnson netted all the six goals during the game thereby, becoming the third player of the tournament to score a double hat-trick. He scored the first goal in the 18th while the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth in the 30th, 37th, 40th, 43th and 77th minutes respectively.
With the win, FIFA will face Headhunters FC in the quarter-finals. It will be a rematch for Headhunters and FIFA this year as in the last edition, the latter lost to the defending champions in their semifinal match 2-1.
Roko Angami, president of Nagaland Football Coaches Association handed over the man of the match award to Ngulgoulal Kuki of FIFA FC.
MMT fixture rescheduled
The organising committee of the NSF Martyr’s Memorial Trophy has informed that the fixture of the 22nd NSF Martyr’s Memorial Trophy 2022 has been rescheduled due to the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nagaland, and the public rally to be held at IG stadium thereafter.
The remaining matches starting from October 20 till the grand finale on October 24 will be played as per the new scheduled date and time.
