36th National Games: Manipur win one more gold medal in cycling

Imphal, Oct. 8 (EMN): Manipur won one more gold medal in cycling and two bronze medals in judo on the 10th day of the ongoing 36th National Games in Gujarat on Saturday.
Thus, the state occupied the 8th position in the medal tally with 15 gold, five silver and 14 bronze medals till the time of filing this report.
The day’s gold medal in cycling was won by Tongbram Monorama’s in the women’s 85 km road race category competition. The silver and bronze medal went to Assam’s Chayanika Gogoi and Maharsahtra’s Pooja Paban Donde respectively. Monorama’s gold is the sixth gold medal from a cycling event.
On the other hand, judokas L Nungshithoi and L Bembem secured one bronze medal each in women’s 52 kg and 57 kg category competitions.
Commonwealth gold medalist weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Devi won Manipur’s first gold medal in the women’s 49 kg weightlifting competition. Her compatriot Kh Sanjita Chanu won the silver whereas Odisha’s Sneha Soren settled with a bronze.
Interestingly, for the first time, Ch Ranju Singh secured a gold medal from skateboard street (roller sports) in the National Games. The President of Manipur Olympic Association, Dr. Th Radheshyam Singh, who had been camping in Gujarat and leading the Manipur team, had said that the state team is still expecting a number of medals from some of the key sports events such as judo, wushu and boxing.
With more than 300 athletes, coaches and officials, Manipur is participating in 21 sports disciplines in the 36th National Games in Gujarat which began on September 29.
