5th W Nokdenlemba volleyball tourney underway
MOKOKCHUNG — The 5th edition of the Padmashree W Nokdenlemba Open Volleyball Tournament commenced on Wednesday at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, as the guest of honour.
In his speech, Longkumer paid tribute to late Padmashree W Nokdenlemba, emphasising the enduring legacy of his virtues and qualities. He urged the attendees to emulate the leader’s exemplary character and leadership.
Highlighting the theme of the tournament, “One team, one spirit,” Longkumer remarked that this principle applies not only to sports but also to various aspects of life, including society and professional settings.
Longkumer also noted that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. He lauded the state’s progress in various fields, including athletics and music, while posing the question, “In this 60th year, are you proud of where you are?”
Meanwhile, in the opening match, United Changki triumphed over Ever Green Club Ungma in a closely fought contest, winning 25-22, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-17. G-Sports delivered a dominant performance, defeating Temolunger Club in straight sets, 25-6, 25-17, and 25-7.
A total of nine teams, including those from Kohima and Wokha districts, will be competing for the prestigious title.
