Kohima, Jan. 10 (EMN): The newly created Tseminyu district hosted a civic reception for its first deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) at the inaugural function of the 75th Rengma Sports Association (RSA) anniversary at the district headquarters on Monday.
‘We have received the sweetness of our struggle’, remarked Pollem Tep, president of Rengma Hoho, the apex body that spearheaded the demand for a separate district.
‘Every Rengma is satisfied. We have been praying about this and believe that has God answered our prayers’, he added and assured the new administration of their support in developing the district further.
‘The Rengma Hoho will not be a mute spectator of developmental activities but will be a watchdog’, he affirmed.
He further appealed to the people to maintain a peaceful environment and extend support to the administration towards the development of the district.
Dr. Zasekuolie Chusi, the first DC, challenged the people to make Tseminyu a ‘model district’ at par with the rest of the districts.
While congratulating the people for achieving their ‘long cherished’ demand of a district, he sought cooperation and best effort from the people towards any developmental activities in the district.
‘We should not have political colours and differences in opinions among the seven ranges of Tseminyu district’, he said, while requesting for unity among villages and leaders.
In the absence of election establishment in the district, he appealed Medo Yhokha, advisor, Election, who was present at the gathering, to consider establishing one and also requested Youth Resource and Sports advisor, Zale Neikha to make available the same status of sports facilities in Tseminyu district.
He further requested advisor for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, R Khing to ‘immediately’ post a district head, that is, chief veterinary officer, to take care of the services in the district.
It may be mentioned that Dr. Chusi was the first veterinarian to be inducted as IAS in Nagaland and is also the first president of CANSSEA.
The first SP, Kanchan Kandpal Kumar recounted that it was his dream to be posted as SP someday. He expressed happiness that the dream of Rengmas and his dream had been achieved in Tseminyu.
The officer shared that it was his first time as an SP in his entire career. He assured to work hard for the betterment of the district and called for working together from the ground as they begin the journey of the new district.
Addressing the platinum jubilee inaugural function as a special guest, advisor of Youth Resource and Sports, Zale Neikha, stated that games and sports is no longer a hobby but a professional occupation. He highlighted the need to restructure the narratives of moulding talented athletes and players.
Towards this endeavour, he assured the people of all possible assistance for the upliftment of youths in the field of games and sports, as long as he is given the in-charge for the concerned department.
He also reminded the participating players that perseverance, ambition and discipline are few factors, among many which will determine their future. He called upon the sportsperson to commit themselves to become the best in whichever discipline they choose to play.
President RSA, G K Rengma informed that the ten-day long event will witness football for men and volleyball for women. He further appealed to the govt. to bring development particularly in the field of sports.
Advisor of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Services and Women Resource Development, R Khing while congratulating the new SP and DC on their appointments, expressed confidence in their capabilities to take the district forward to new heights.
