Nagaland’s Covid-19 tally climbs to 330

Nagaland on Tuesday breached the 300-mark of Covid-19 cases as 50 returnees tested positive, taking the state’s tally to 330.

This is also the second-highest single-day spike in the number of positive cases in the state.

“Out of 312 samples tested, 50 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported. 24 patients from Dimapur QC, 14 patients from Kohima QC and 12 patients from Peren QC,” the minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, tweeted.

Health authorities in Nagaland have declared 141 patients as recovered so far. As per the Health department’s update, there are 189 active cases in the state.

As of June 23, Peren has 83 active cases, followed by Dimapur with 43; Kohima with 35; Mon with 23; Tuensang with three active cases and Phek and Zunheboto with one active case each.

According to Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, all the 189 active cases are asymptomatic.

“Till date, a total of 9,950 samples have been tested. The results of 8,467 samples have been received. Out of the 9,950 samples, 7,121 samples have been received at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima till today (June 23), and a total of 5,926 samples have been tested, out of which, 271 samples have tested positive.

“In addition, a total of 3,026 samples have been tested by TrueNat; out of which 28 samples tested positive and sent for confirmation by RT-PCR. Further, 2,501 samples have tested negative and the results of 497 samples are awaited. A total of 6,405 persons are presently under facility quarantine,” Sinha informed in his daily briefing.
