Nagaland records 17 new Covid-19 cases; 148 recovered so far

Seventeen more returnees were tested positive for Covid-19 in Nagaland on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 347.

This was informed by the minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, through an update on Wednesday.

“Out of 448 samples tested, 17 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported. 15 patients from Kohima QC and 2 from Zunheboto QC,” the minister tweeted. He added that seven more patients – five from Dimapur and two from Kohima – have been declared ‘recovered’.

A reliable source said that out of the 15 new cases from Kohima, 12 are army personnel under Jakhama Army Cantonment.

As of June 24, Peren has 83 active cases, followed by Kohima- 48, Dimapur- 38, Mon- 23, three each in Tuensang and Zunheboto, and one case in Phek.

According to daily briefing by Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, the total number of recovered patients stands at 148 and all the 199 active cases are asymptomatic and receiving medical care at the designated Covid-19 hospitals.

“As per the distribution of the 347 cases by age, there are 4 cases between 0-17 years, 330 cases between 18-44 years, 11 cases between 45-64 years and 2 cases between 65-74 years. As per the distribution of gender, there are 242 males and 105 females,” informed Sinha.

“Till date, a total of 10, 322 samples have been tested. Results of 8,914 samples have been received. Out of the 10,322 samples, 7,156 samples have been received at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), till today (June 24), and a total of 5,936 samples have been tested- out of which 288 samples have tested positive,” he added.

The update went on to inform that a total of 3,348 samples have been tested by TrueNat, out of which 31 samples that tested positive were sent for confirmation by RT-PCR, while 2,799 samples tested negative and the results of 518 samples are awaited.

“A total of 5,995 persons are presently under facility quarantine,” he added.
