Students of DMI St. Joseph Global School take unity pledge on the occasion of National Unity Day on October 31.

Dimapur, Nov. 1 (EMN): Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Unity College observed the National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31.

Chairing the programme, assistant professor of Commerce Vandana Ladha presented a brief background on National Unity Day, which is observed on October 31 across the country since 2014 to mark the birth anniversary of ‘Iron Man of India’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The college’s principle Dr. Lichumo Enie began his speech by paying tribute to Patel, India’s first home minister. He also mentioned the contribution of Patel, who led the task of integrating princely states into a union of India after Independence in 1947.

He further reminded the participants to take a pledge to give first priority to national unity and integration regardless of caste, creed, religion or gender and to let unity and harmony be known to the world.

A short speech on national diversity was delivered by Kewithunbo Nchang, BA 3rd semester student and UCSU magazine and information secretary, while Jyoti Dimasa, M Com 3rd semester student, recited a poem on national integration.

The programme ended with a pledged administered by Dr. Adani Ngullie, IQAC coordinator. All teaching faculty, non-teaching staff and students attended the online programme.

In a related programme, DMI St. Joseph Global School observed the ‘Rasthriya Ekta Diwas’ online on October 31.

The objective of the programme was to reaffirm the inherent strength and resilience of the nation to withstand potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of the country by instilling in the young minds the thirst for those ideals.

On the occasion, the school organised various activities online from 2 pm to 3 pm for students from classes 5-10 such as online pledge for students of classes 6 and 6, essay writing for students of classes 7 and 8 on the theme ‘‘Rasthriya Ekta Diwas,’ and poster making for students of classes 9 and 10 on the theme ‘Rasthriya Ekta Diwas’.
