Manipur adds one more artificial football turf

Imphal, Dec. 12 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday inaugurated an artificial football turf at Langjing Achouba in Imphal West district. The ground, which was constructed at a cost of INR 10 crore, was handed over to the department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
With the inauguration of the facility, the state now has two artificial football turfs. The first one is at RAU ground in Imphal East district.
Addressing the gathering, Biren said that development of games and sports is one of the ways to make youths of the State healthy and disciplined.
He maintained that the state government had much concern about the development of sports sector and was working out to give grants to local sport clubs to ease financial constraint they faced to maintain the clubs. Stating that cash incentives of INR 50 lakh each had been awarded to NEROCA and TRAU earlier for participating in I-League, he said that the government was planning grant similar cash incentive to KRYPHSA Football Club.
The CM further said that the state government had identified places in 16 districts of the state to construct hockey grounds.
In his speech, Youth Affairs and Sports and Water Resources Minister Latpao Haokip said the state government had made a proposal to the Centre for construction of mini stadiums in 32 sub divisions of the state, of which four each in valley and hill districts had been selected and foundation stones for the same would be laid soon.
Lauding players from the state for acquiring a place in the map of games and sports, he said proper playground is necessary in every village to garner the talent of the youths.
