Manipur govt. to intensify monitoring of home isolation Covid patients

Imphal, May 22 (EMN): After launching the chief minister’s Covid-19 grievance cell, Manipur government is planning to intensify the monitoring of home isolation patients in the state in view of the rapid rising of the Covid 19 positive cases in the past few weeks.
Sharing the information relating to the proposed intensification of the monitoring programmes, Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a tweet on Saturday wrote, “As we noticed certain anomalies in the standard practice of home isolation, we will be intensifying the monitoring of home isolation patients. Teams comprising doctors and other healthcare staff will now visit these households to check up on the patients”.
The Manipur authority on Friday had opened a grievance cell at the chief minister’s secretariat in Imphal to address the concerns of Covid patients undergoing home isolation, who have not received adequate follow-up after speaking with the state Covid-19 control room.
Meanwhile, Manipur Civil Service Association along with some IAS and MCS officers of the 2007 batch on Friday donated 50 D-type oxygen cylinders to the state government.
The association donated the cylinders, which cost a total of INR 10 lakhs, in response to an urgent need for oxygen cylinders for use in the treatment of Covid patients in various hospitals and Covid care centres.
The MCS association was represented by its president who is the director of social welfare, Ngangom Uttam, the secretary of the association, also the additional district magistrate of Imphal West, Yumnam Nelson, director of Information and Public Relations, Heisnam Balkrisna, and the joint director of transport, Dr. Mayengbam Veto.
Thanking the initiative, the chief minister in tweet wrote, “I thank the Manipur Civil Service Association and other like-minded IAS & MCS officers for their generous donation of 50 D Type Oxygen cylinders to the State Govt. I appreciate the officers for going out of their way to help the Government in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic”.
Earlier, the Manipur Cricket Association had donated 40 D-type cylinders towards the state government. The teaching and non-teaching staff of Dhanamanjuri University and its five constituent colleges have donated their one-day salary to the chief minister’s Covid relief fund, amounting to INR 14 lakh.
It may be mentioned that many organisations and individuals have started to donate cash and kind to the state government.
Manipur reports 13 more Covid deaths
The situation in Manipur remains grim as the state on Saturday recorded a total of 13 deaths due to Covid-19, taking the state’s death toll to 674.
The press release stated that Imphal West reported six deaths out of which three were females, four from Imphal East, and one each from the districts of Kakching and Thoubal.
On the other hand, the state recorded 757 new Covid 19 positive cases, taking the state’s total infection tally rises to 43,322 besides increasing the total number of active cases to 6,390, according to a press release. The cases were detected at many testing centres spread across 14 districts in the state and maximum numbers of cases were reported from Imphal West (336) and Imphal East (141) districts.
Though 36,258 persons, including 652 in the last 24 hours have recovered so far, the recovery rate still stands at 83.69 percent.
As of Saturday, 6,76,717 persons were screened at the entry points of the state while 6,78,808 persons were tested for Covid-19 at the various testing centres in the state.
Meanwhile, Manipur police detained 243 persons across the state for violating health protocols and released them after giving warning. An amount of INR 84,000 was also collected as fine.
On the other hand, the state has administered 3,41,781 anti-Covid jabs to the residents. Till date, 79,701 healthcare workers and frontline workers received a second dose of vaccines. The total number of healthcare workers vaccinated with the first dose of Covishield vaccine is 37,508 while 24,487 of them received the second dose of vaccines. Meanwhile, 84,520 frontline workers have received the first dose while 49,202 have received the second dose of Covishield in the state, the Manipur Health department officials said.
