Diphu, May 31 (EMN): Onbir Teron, a TET qualifier and a resident of Rongmarjong, Polytechnic Diphu staged a sit-in-demonstration in front of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) secretariat on Monday in protest against the selection procedure for the appointment of 81 lower primary teachers for Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong by District Primary Education department, KAAC.
The Primary Education department of KAAC on May 28 issued a notification for appointment of 81 sanctioned vacant posts of LP teacher under the Primary Education department, KAAC.
Teron as the lone protestor for the issue started his sit-in-demonstration from morning 9 am until 11 am and crtiticised the selection procedure for the appointment of LP teachers as it was carried out based on percentage of marks secured in TET examination and not on merit system.
In other districts of Assam, the appointment process was followed considering the percentage of marks obtained in HS final year examination, (Diploma in Elementary Education (D. El. Ed.) and TET examinations. The candidates securing the highest marks percentage in HS, TET and D. El. Ed. examinations get first preference in the teacher’s appointment and the number comes in descending order.
‘However, regarding LP teachers it is not so and the candidates, who have not qualified for TET are getting appointed,’ Teron alleged. He informed that he has the TET qualified list conducted by Assam’s Department of Elementary Education (DEE)/ Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
‘It is a deprivation for the genuine TET qualified candidates for such partiality being made,’ he said. Teron cleared the TET examination in 2019 with 55 percent marks.
Meanwhile, more TET qualified candidates will be joining him in the protest tomorrow, Teron informed. Likewise, one of the TET qualified students Rupjili Beypi posted in her facebook status saying, ‘Education is the backbone of our society, however fake documents and the bribe system, which is the current trend in the district is breaking and hampering the upliftment’.
