BGMI hands out permanent device bans for over 58k cheaters
Dimapur, Dec. 28 (EMN): South Korean game developer Krafton on Monday announced that its anti-cheat mechanisms had detected and permanently banned 58,611 Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) accounts between December 20 to December 26.
Just last week, the developer had announced that it was now permanently banning devices suspected of cheating.
Cheating has always been a huge problem in games, especially in multiplayer games like BGMI. The company wrote in a blog post that it was introducing device bans in order to “provide fair gameplay and eliminate the use of illegal programs.”
It may be mentioned that the company previously banned over 25 lakh accounts in November alone. The company is seemingly hell-bent on tackling the cheating problem plaguing its game in India.
Besides offering account bans for cheating, the added support for device bans will — in theory, make it harder to cheat in BGMI. Previously, cheaters could just make another smurf account to continue their rampage. Now, with an ‘effective’ device ban in place, they might have to buy a completely new device to cheat again.
Although it is possible to circumvent the device ban, however, it is harder to pull off than just making a new account.
Regardless of whether or not the ‘device ban’ completely solves the cheating problem, it is definitely a step in the right direction for Krafton.
In a blog post on its website, Krafton wrote, “BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA will strive to implement strong sanctions with the ultimate goal of eradicating the use of illegal programs in order to provide you a pleasant gaming environment.”
