Dimapur, Jan. 16 (EMN): Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 3 Dimapur-III, Azheto Zhimomi, has called upon the people to extend friendship and uphold one another in all aspects saying it is prerequisite to bring about social and political reforms in the Naga society.

Addressing a large gathering on the occasion of Sukrunye festival celebration of the Chakhesang community in Selouphe Model Village on January 15, Azheto emphasised that it should be the responsibility of each individual to be united as one people in order to bring about social and political reforms in the society.

Reiterating that the government of India had agreed on one solution inclusive of all, he urged upon the people to bring all the different groups of Naga national workers to become one. He added that bringing all the Naga political groups together was one sincere goal of the Neiphiu Rio-led government. In the same direction, he stated all 60 MLAs of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, irrespective of political affiliation, have come together as one.

On the matter regarding the demand to repeal AFSPA, he asserted that Nagas must voice out as one for removal of the act from the Northeast.

Azheto also encouraged the youth to be more enterprising and make best use of their abilities rather than depending on the government alone. He stated that the government would definitely help those who are promising and hardworking but would not be able to provide government jobs to all.

As the country is witnessing an increase in Covid-19 cases, Azheto urged the public must act responsibly to be safe from the virus and to follow the SOPs and other guidelines issued by the government and to co-operate with the government by availing the vaccination.

Meanwhile, Rev. Dr. Yiepetso Wezah, Auxiliary Secretary of Bible Society of India, shared the significance of the festival.

Members from other communities and elders from surrounding villages were present at the festival celebration.

The festival celebration was marked by Naga wrestling competition along with other traditional games, songs and a grand feast.
