Nagaland felicitates BLOs, new voters on National Voters’ Day
Dimapur, Jan. 25 (EMN): Various districts across Nagaland observed the 12th ‘National Voters Day’ on the theme ‘Making elections inclusive, accessible and participative.’ The themes envisaged ECI’s commitment to facilitate active participation of voters during the elections and to make the complete process hassle free and a memorable experience for all categories of voters.
The main purpose of the National Voters’ Day was to encourage, facilitate and maximise enrolment, especially for the new voters and spread awareness among voters and for promoting informed participation in the electoral process.
The National Voters’ Day was initiated in 2011 to commemorate the foundation day of Election Commission of India on January 25, 1950, with an aim to raise awareness, maximize enrolment of new voters, encourage and facilitate the young voters to participate in electoral process.
Mokokchung: Administering of voters’ pledge and awards to the best booth level officers (BLO) and winners of online essay writing competition and felicitation of new voters marked the National Voters’ Day in Mokokchung, which was held in the conference hall of the additional deputy commissioner (planning).
While administering the voters’ pledge, the deputy commissioner and district election officer of Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir, congratulated the BLO for their hard work and dedication. He also congratulated the new voters and advised them to judiciously utilise their voting rights.
In the online essay writing competition, Sentilemla Aier and Kilangzulu from Queen Mary Higher Secondary School secured the first and second positions respectively, while Takanaro Walling from Jubilee Memorial School won the third position.
The best BLO awards were given to Imkumzukba, PT of GPS, Awatsung, Merengkong; Purnukshi, PT of GPS Unger; Chadensang, GT of GMS, Mopungchuket; Temsumayang, AT of Imrongtema, Mongsenyimti; Jongpongba, GT of GMS, Mokokchung village; Tialiba, SDO, Mechanical Engineer, PWD, Mokokchung; Imliwapang, assistant computer operator of IPR, Mokokchung; Aripong, UGT of GHS, Mangmetong; Pangerlemba, PT of GPS Chungliyimsen; and Imkongyapang Jamir, GT of GMS, Yajang ‘C.’
Longleng: The National Voters Day in Longleng was observed in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office in which the DC and DEO of Longleng, M Shayung Phom, spoke on the significance and importance of observing the day.
He reminded every voter to understand the benefits of their voting rights to bring social change and development. He, therefore, urged the gathering to take a strong resolution with commitment and make the right decision to elect a qualified and efficient leader and contribute to nation building through their franchise. In order to disseminate the voters’ empowerment message to the marginal sections of people living in the rural areas, the DC further suggested observing the National Voters Day in the subdivisions and blocks in the coming years.
The ADC and electoral registration officer of Longleng, D Robin lauded the two best BLO for their dedication and devotion in their additional assignment and effort to have a genuine electoral roll. He gave away the best BLO awards to T Lome Phom and K Chauba Phom under 49 Tamlu and 50 Longleng assembly constituencies respectively.
Tuensang: Tuensang district administration, in collaboration with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), observed the National Voters’ Day at Town Hall Tuensang.
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner and DEO of Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant, spoke on the relevance of the theme and appreciated the idea of including people aged 18 and above as genuine voters. He stated that EPIC is not just an ID card but to assist the citizens in the electoral process and its rights.
Saotola, district SVEEP Icon, stated that malpractices in the election processes hamper the rights of the citizens and urged every voter to shun malpractices and choose their leaders wisely.
In the quiz competition, Sao Chang Government College won the first prize, while St. John Higher Secondary School and Loyem Memorial College won the second and third prizes respectively. The winners of the photo campaign were S Nyimang and R Khumkiumong.
The best BLO awards were given to M Kelep under 51 AC, Meyasepong under 52 AC, O Changlem under 53 AC, R Kheanshi under 54 AC and L Rejing under 58 AC.
The pledge was administered by Rohit Singh, SDO (C).
Kiphire: National Voters’ Day in Kiphire was observed with its deputy commissioner, T Wati Aier, as the special guest in his office’s conference hall.
Addressing the gathering, Wati urged the citizens to maintain clean elections for rapid development in the society. He also advised to choose a clean and visionary leader. He further advised all eligible voters to enroll themselves.
The special guest also administered the voters’ pledge during the programme.
Best BLO, winners of photo online competition, PwDs and senior citizens were awarded with certificates and cash prizes on the occasion.
The additional deputy commissioner and ERO, Rahul Mali, delivered the keynote address. Officials from the district administration, PwDs, senior citizens, GB, and women leaders attended the programme.
Noklak: Speaking on the occasion of National Voters’ Day, the deputy commissioner of Noklak, Hiazu Meru, urged upon the public to create awareness among the eligible candidates to enroll themselves. While underlining the important role of the BLO, the DC urged them to continue their works sincerely.
SDO (Civil) and ERO of Noklak congratulated all the newly enrolled voters in the district.
Wokha: Marking the National Voters’ Day celebration, the Wokha district SVEEP Icon, Lothunglo Z Ezung, urged upon the new generation to be involved in the electoral process in order to bring about changes in the society.
She stated this while addressing the gathering on the occasion of the National Voters’ Day event held in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner on Tuesday. She has underscored the importance of youth involvement to bring about changes in the society.
On the occasion, the ADC of Wokha, Lankonsen Tsanglao felicitated the newly enrolled voters and also handed over the best BLO award to K Khyothungo, Abenthung Humtsoe, Likao Lotha and David Tsopoe.
In the online speech competition held on the topic “Clean election and clean electoral roll,” the first prize was conferred to Ethel Y Mozhui from Fernbrook School, while Khonzani and Khonzani Ngullie from Fernbrook School were awarded with the second and third prizes respectively.
Phek: Commemorating the Nation Voters’ Day, the deputy commissioner of Phek,
Razouvolie Dozo urged upon the public to create awareness in order to elect a right leader. He stated that free and fair elections should be conducted by maintaining equal participation.
While congratulating new voters, he called upon them to play an active role in the clean election movement initiated by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council.
Significance of the day was delivered by Phuleshe K Yepthomi, ADC and ERO, Phek, while speech on behalf of the newly enrolled voters was delivered by Muguhu Hoshi. Kozote Akami was awarded the best BLO.
LFIC: Livingstone Foundation International College (LFIC) celebrated the National Voters’ Day with the deputy commissioner of Dimapur and DEO, Rajesh Soundararajan as the chief guest.
The programme was chaired by H Atokhe Aye, additional deputy commissioner of Dimapur, while speech was delivered by the deputy commissioner and also administered the voters’ pledge.
