Manipur: 47 valid nominations on last date of scrutiny

Imphal, Feb. 14 (EMN): As many as 47 candidates from different political parties and independent candidates who filed their nomination for 10 Assembly Constituencies in Thoubal and Kakching districts were found valid on the last date of the scrutiny process on Monday.
Among the 10 Constituencies of Thoubal and Kakching, Wangkhem has the highest number of candidates (8), while Wangjing Tentha and Sugnoo constituencies have the lowest number of candidates (three each).
Lilong, Wabagai and Hiyanglam constituencies have five candidates each, while Thoubal, Heirok and Khangabok constituencies have four candidates each. Six candidates are contesting for Kakching Constituency.
Prominent leaders among the 47 candidates include former Chief Minister and CLP leader O Ibobi Singh of congress from Thoubal constituency. Sitting MLAs K Meghachandra, O Surjakumar and Md. Fajur Rahim is also seeking re-election from Wangkhem, Khangabo and Wabagai as Congress candidates.
In the upcoming Assembly Election, 71 polling stations including Thoubal constituency will be manned by all women polling personnel in Thoubal and Kakching districts.
