Imphal, April 7 (EMN): As part of AICC nationwide protest, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday staged a sit-in against the price hike of petroleum products in Imphal.
Displaying placards which carried pictorial messages against the price hike of petroleum products in the country, newly appointed MPCC President K Meghachandra led party leaders including former Lok Sabha MP Dr. Th Meinya, former MLA Fazur Rahim, MPCC vice president L Tilotama and others in day’s demonstration.
Speaking at the dharna site, MPCC President K Meghachandra said that the prices of petroleum products — petrol and diesel — have been increased 14 times in 16 days. He said the increase in petroleum products ‘is nothing but an imposition of indirect taxes to the common people’.
“The BJP government is presenting breakfast gift to the citizen as a price hike of petroleum products”, said Megachandra.
The price hike will give more burden to the farming community in the state and subsequently the prices of the food grains will be increased, he said, claiming that no prices of the essential commodities has been fixed in the state.
