Diphu, April 20 (EMN): Two RTI activists, Podmo Teron and Hemphu Engti have alleged the involvement of Khansing Rongpi, Executive Member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and incharge of Health and Family Welfare in the job scam at the office of joint director of Health and Service, Karbi Anglong and demanded that the appointment be cancelled.
Engti and Teron held a protest in front of KAAC main entrance gate in Diphu on Wednesday.
When asked by media persons, Teron said that, ‘In 2019, when Dr. Kareng Rongpipi was the joint director, advertisement was made to fill-up 14 Grade III and Grade IV posts in the office but the appointment process was not done on merit basis’.
Candidates from within the family members of EM Rongpi and close relatives were preferred, he further said.
“Through RTI information, we have come to know that those candidates securing lowest marks in the written examination got an appointment, while those with highest marks were deprived. Even a few candidates have produced fake registration certificates of Pharmacy and later got appointments,” Teron alleged.
Teron also alleged that some non-ST candidates from Golaghat came to appear for the interview and got appointed. How can non-ST candidates from general districts apply for government jobs in the ST reserved district in Karbi Anglong, Teron questioned.
“EM Rongpi was involved in this job scam. Despite our allegation against EM Rongpi, he is still keeping mum about it. Our demand is that EM Rongpi should immediately act on it to cancel the illegal appointment, if not to resign from being the EM of KAAC,” Teron said.
