Diphu, June 3 (EMN): With just four days left for the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election, All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) nominated a candidate for Lumbajong Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency and conducted an election meeting-cum-opening of its temporary office at Langmili in Diphu town on Friday.

Informing media persons, candidate Rajen Timung said, “With a huge gathering of Langmili people, I clearly understand that the people of Karbi Anglong are now aware about the sixth schedule of the Indian Constitution, where non-tribal people are taking privilege and snatching our political rights but the people disagree and oppose it”.

Timung also said, “We will make a new land law in KAAC. At present, the council is adopting 1886 Assam Land Revenue Regulation Act and this act is totally wrong to apply in the sixth schedule area. Paragraph 20 says that tribal area belongs to tribals and we will cancel the name of non-tribals. Thus, it falls under the sixth schedule area. In the last 70 years, indigenous people have been deprived of government job so, we are becoming poorer and poorer. Those who have paid cash for jobs under KAAC, we will find out and terminate each and everyone under the law”, asserted Timung.
