Diphu, July 7 (EMN):  The BJP-East Karbi Anglong District Committee (BJP-EKADC) on Wednesday organised a victory rally at Diphu government Boys HS School playground, to express gratitude to the people of Karbi Anglong for putting their faith in the BJP and allowing the party to win in all the 26 Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) seats of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

The election was held on June 8 in both 6th Schedule districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

The rally witnessed the joining of several party workers and supporters from other parties and candidates, who lost in the concluded KAAC elections.

Among them were Congress leader and independent candidate from Kopili MAC constituency, Bajong Tisso; Congress leader and independent candidate from Lumbajong MAC constituency, Rangsina Hanse; former president, KSA and United Democratic Front of Surupathar (UDFS) backed independent candidate from Surupathar MAC constituency, Simeon Rongphar; independent candidate from Socheng Dhenta, Mohen Bey; Congress candidate from Kopili MAC constituency, Kareng Phangchopi; Congress candidate from Hamren and MAC constituency, Rupesh Bey along with their supporters have joined the BJP.

Kneeling in front of the gathering to express his gratitude to the people CEM Tuliram Ronghang said, ‘I on behalf of the 26 MACs express my deep and sincere gratitude to the people of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong as you have reposed your faith on us. You have given us another five years’ chance to serve you.’

Blaming the leadership of All Party Hill Leaders Conference JI Kathar, the CEM said, “Is it not strange that Kathar is demanding re-election of KAAC, after the government has been formed and the post of Chairman and CEM has been elected? If he is not satisfied with the conduct of the election then why can’t he demand re-election soon after voting ended.”

The CEM clarified the eviction drive carried out at Rongpangthir, 5th Miles, Lumding Road and said the 25 bighas were initially allotted to the Central Silk Board for plantation purposes. But people have encroached on the land.

The CEM said that the 11 genuinely landless families will be rehabilitated at Baliram Terang village, Lumding Road while INR 1 lakh and 10 pieces of tin sheets would be provided for the construction of houses.

He said around 1,678 illegal structures at Langkaijan were evicted as a solar plant would be constructed. Also, he said, eviction at Dudu Colony has stopped, but it will continue.

As there is a need for Science streams in other colleges too, the CEM said in two years the KAAC will try to introduce Science streams in Rangsina College, Dongkamukam and other provincialised colleges as well. The INR 875 crore Assam Mala road project from Donkamukam to Khanduli will be constructed in two years, the CEM said.
