Awareness campaign on transforming education system in Karbi Anglong launched
Alarming dropout rate with zero teachers in 30 schools

Diphu, Aug. 1 (EMN): Initiated by the Education department, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the Chief executive member (CEM) KAAC Tuliram Ronghang on Aug. 1 launched the awareness campaign for quality education in the Education department, KAAC, at the conference hall of the new KAAC Secretariat.
More than 26 social and students’ organisations of Karbi Anglong attended the launching programme.The student leaders shared their views and opinions on the development of quality education in Karbi Anglong.
Interestingly, this is the first time the authority of the KAAC held a meeting with stakeholders about the development of quality education.
During the launching programme, the CEM cautioned that if irregularities of teachers are found in schools in respective Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituencies or poor infrastructures, the Ems, local MAC and Education department have to look out for the matter.
The CEM also informed that, if there are schools wanting to convert from Assamese to English medium, then the School Managing Committee (SMC), after proper discussion should submit their proposal to the concerned authority.
Also, Ronghang announced that the KAAC will sponsor those students from BPL families who wish to take up the Science stream for higher studies.
He warned that students should attend classes regularly while directing the teachers to enquire about the parents if a student misses class for five consecutive days.
Executive Member (EM), KAAC, Education, Richard Tokbi said in Karbi Anglong the dropout rate is 32.57 percent, while in West Karbi Anglong is 39.05 percent which is very alarming. Tokbi also mentioned that there are zero teachers in 30 schools which is a serious matter.
The EM, while appreciating the CEM for his support in transforming the education system, urged all the stakeholders of various student and youth organisations to work together as a team in achieving quality education.
The launching programme was attended by Chairman, KAAC, Raju Tisso; MLA, Bidya Sing Engleng; EMs, MACs; Principal Secretary, KAAC, Mukul Saikia and leaders of various student and civil bodies.
