Mokokchung, Oct. 14 (EMN): Longpa Lomuden FC’s Lanusunep early strike sealed a 1-0 win against Marepkong Youth Association in the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2022 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on October Friday.
With two consecutive losses, Marepkong Youth Association (MYA) are out of the tournament from Pool B while Longpa Lomuden FC and Mongsenbai FC will face off on October 17 to contest for the pool B winner and runner-up slots.
MYA pushed all their strength into attacking mode during the whole match but lacked the finishing touch, which foiled their efforts for the much-needed win. Lanusunep’s early strike in the 5th minute of the game was enough to seal the fate of MYA.
One of the top contenders of the trophy, Moanungsang Memorial Sports Club (MMSC), also entered the quarter finals as the Pool C winners after they beat OCYU via a solitary goal in the second match.
In the previous match, MMSC collected three points in their encounter with Youngsters Team and with Friday’s win, they collected six points for a berth in the quarters.
In the early minutes of the first half, both teams displayed equal strength but MMSC began its aggressive offense threatening the OCYU defence line and penetrated a couple of times. However, Tiasunep displayed some magnificent saves including a penalty kick.
After the breather, MMSC got ample opportunities to penetrate the shield of OCYU but their raids yielded no results as their challenge proved no serious threats for OCYU goalkeeper.
However, the introduction of two senior players Chuba and Bendangnukshi inflicted much pressure on OCYU. In the final minutes MMSC’s won a free kick and the shot was taken by Chuba. OCYU goalkeeper parried the ball but the shot got deflected and Molutsupong made no mistake to connect the ball into the rival’s net in the 55th minute to hand his team a 1-0 win.
