Diphu, Dec. 27 (EMN): The public of Karbi Anglong has demanded to extend the date of public hearing to Jan. 23, 2023 in connection with the firing incident at Mukroh in West Karbi Anglong on November 22 that led to the death of six persons including a Forest Home Guard.
The government of Assam on Nov. 23 constituted one man enquiry commission was headed by Justice Rumi Kumar Phukan, retired judge of Guwahati High Court to investigate the Mukroh incident. The commission had fixed Dec. 27 as the date for public hearing that called for any individuals or organisations having knowledge of the facts and circumstances to appear and submit the statement to the commission at Dongkamukam Irrigation guest house in West Karbi Anglong.
Several persons including leaders of students’ organisations like the KSA-Thangsing Timung faction attended the public hearing.
The public and student bodies expressed disappointment with the public hearing conducted by the one man commission as it was not a wide publication and the public had no information about it.
Chairman, Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS), Khorsing Teron said the public had no knowledge about the conduct of a public hearing on Dec. 27.
Teron said, “The public and social organisations have no knowledge about the conduct of the public hearing. For conduct of public hearing there should be given sufficient time and wide publication should be made by the government. We demand that it be conducted on another date so that public and social organisations can submit relevant documents and facts.”
