Nagaland commemorates Netaji’s birth anniversary
Commemorating the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Nagaland unfurled 126 Indian flags led by the state Chief Secretary, J Alam, at the Civil Secretariat Plaza in Kohima on Wednesday.
Addressing the event, the chief secretary remembered Netaji as one of the foremost and most loved freedom fighters of the nation, adding that his epochal contributions in the freedom movement remain unparalleled and he continues to inspire and live in the hearts of every countrymen.
“His indomitable spirit, selfless sacrifices made all throughout his life while continuing to strive with deep conviction and resolution for the freedom of our nation from the shackles of bondage make our heads bow in reverence and awe,” he said.
Brass and pipe band were displayed by the Nagaland Police and Assam Rifles on several tunes on the songs of Azad Hind Fauj or Indian National Army (INA) which was led by Netaji for attainment of freedom of the nation.
During the occasion, over 500 volunteers from National Cadet Corps, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, National Service Scheme and Assam Rifles participated in the walkathon which began at IG stadium and culminated at the Secretariat Plaza.
Chesezu, Ruzazho village observe Bose’s birth anniversary
Chesezu village observed the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose with deputy commissioner of Phek, Kumar Ramnikant, as the chief guest.
Ramnikant, in his speech, stated that Netaji came to Chesezu village while fighting for the freedom of the country.
“Chesezu was fortunate to witness the inspiration, motivation, and teachings of Netaji,” the DC said.
Ramnikant said that though Bose qualified for the civil service at the age of 21, he declined to work under the British and never compromised with injustice. He urged the village to maintain the statue of Bose and assured that the district administration would also assist in doing the same.
Ramnikant emphasised that Chesezu is on the world map because Netaji was in the village.
“Great names have great responsibilities, therefore Chesezu should be a model village,” he added.
Meanwhile, the director of Tourism, Keduosie-u M Rio, unveiled the watch tower of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The statue was funded by the Union Ministry of Tourism and executed by the state Tourism department.
Vezo Swuro, one of the surviving associates of Bose, was also felicitated by the deputy commissioner.
Meanwhile, Ruzazho village in Phek district also observed the birth anniversary of Bose with Maj. Gen. Vikas Lakhera, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) as special guest.
A living witness of Netaji, Cekrolhu Swuro, released balloons on the occasion.
