Karbi Anglong districts join in R-Day celebration
The 74th Republic Day was celebrated in the twin hill districts of Karbi Anglong district and West Karbi Anglong, Assam, on Thursday.
The local district administration organised the event in a colorful manner playing patriotic songs through loudspeaker system, while several offices, schools and colleges took the initiative to mark the event.
In Diphu, chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, unfurled the tri-colour in presence of deputy commissioner, Madhumita Bhagabati.
Speaking on the occasion Ronghang said, “We are glad that, as the largest democracy in the world, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modiji, “Jan Bhagidari” – people’s participation – is made the bedrock of our democracy. It was due to Jan Bhagidari that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a mass movement that has resulted in over 10,000 open defecation-free-plus villages and more than 110 million toilets in just 60 months. It also brought over 100 million tap water connections in villages through Jal Jeevan Mission.”
He also said that the twin districts have just concluded Gunotsov, which aims to transform and add quality to the education system.
“Our government is not a ‘one-way Way traffic,’ it’s a two-way road.’ We do not just tell. We also listen. We also hear that you want to get Article 244A implemented by creating the Autonomous state of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. We are constantly doing our best to press for its early implementation,” the CEM said.
Stressing on employment opportunities, Ronghang said, “We lay great priority on development and employment. We are continuously introducing schemes to help develop livelihoods. ..I encourage our youths to not only think of getting a job but also think about creating jobs for others.” He also highlighted on tourism promotion of Karbi Anglong. “We are also introducing various schemes to develop tourism. We recently held various Karbi Anglong Tourism programmes to promote the tourism sector. We believe it will offer various livelihood opportunities to our local youths,” he added.
