A week-long book fair programme organised by the Publication Board of Assam and All Assam Publishers and Booksellers Association in collaboration with Karbi Anglong District administration is now underway at Diphu Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School playground.

The book fair which began on Feb. 6 will conclude on Feb. 12.

The inaugural function was in the evening with the lighting of the inaugural lamp by Chief Executive Member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang; HAD Minister Jugen Mohan along with Padmashree Rongbong Terang and former president of Assam Sahitya Sabha and Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Science, Prof. (Dr) Druba Jyoti Borah.

The inaugural function witnessed the release of several books written by various authors.

Several books were also released during the launching programme.

A coffee table book ‘Aparup Arleng’ brought out by the District Administration was also released.

The book ‘Slogans, Guns and The Sixth Schedule: Autonomy makeover in Karbi Anglong’ and ‘Monsoon Symphony’ — a collection of poems — written by Elwin Teron was also released by Chief Executive Member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang.

The third edition of the novel ‘Puwata Ajak Dhonesh, written by former MP Dr. Jayanta Rongpi was also brought out. The other books released on the inaugural evening were ‘Emuthi Dimasa Hadu Kotha’ written by senior journalist Sanju Borah; Homoi Aru Sinta, a collection of articles by Monimonta Saikia; Gandhle, a novel by Kalpana Bora; Hidhoi aur Epitap, a collection of poems by Korobi Dekka Phukon; Karbri Riso, a description about the working of the social life of the Karbis youths by Binando Terang and Proverbs from around the world written both in Karbi and Assamese by Sikari Tisso. The book has a collection of 2030 proverbs from 203 countries.  

The CEM in his speech said the book ‘Slogans, Guns and The Sixth Schedule: Autonomy makeover in Karbi Anglong written by Elwin Teron is valuable. It describes the autonomous state movement in the hill districts of Karbi Anglong and NC Hills led by the Autonomous State movement, which led to the signing of the MoU with the Central government.

HAD Minister Jugen Mohan in his speech mentioned that the central government is trying to develop the sixth scheduled areas for which the Assam government is in. He said the development of various cultures of various indigenous tribes will lead to the growth of Assamese culture.
