KNCA and AIPWA jointly organise International Women’s Day in Karbi Anglong
The Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) and All India Progressive Women Association (AIPWA) jointly celebrated International Women’s Day with theme, ‘Fight for women’s equality, dignity and freedom’.
The special programme was organised for women in Diphu at PC CPI(ML) office on Wednesday.
A meeting with women engaged in various activities was also held to inform about women’s rights and dignity.
The meeting was chaired by the president of KNCA, Rengka Taropi and president of AIPWA, Sira Beypi while the main objective of the meeting was explained by the general secretary of KNCA, Pratima Enghipi.
A joint memorandum by KNCA and AIPWA addressed to Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma was submitted to DC, Karbi Anglong demanding 33% women seat reservation bill in Parliament/Assemblies and 50% in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council.
The women organisations in their memorandum mentioned fighting against all forms of violence against women, providing justice for rape victims, providing education for girl students from KG upto PG level and that the government should waive loans for all loan holders of poor women who have taken loan from micro finance banks stop price rise of essential commodities and implementation of Article 244(A) of the India constitution for granting of autonomous state for the hill districts of Assam.
