Dr. Yhome stresses on the need for structural change
Chozuba — Advisor of School Education and State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on Wednesday, highlighted on the need to bring about structural change in the school education.
Dr. Yhome pointed out that the department has a vital role to play in places where there are no private schools for children to get education. He, however, acknowledged that the government has failed in some areas.
He disclosed this to media persons after his two-day visit to Zunheboto and Phek districts. Dr. Yhome has termed his visit as a preliminary survey after taking a tour of interior places in both the districts. He, however, remarked that Chozuba sub-division in Phek district has the potential for higher education.
He maintained that the department of School Education with 1939 government schools is a huge department next to the Police department. The advisor also pointed out the need to revamp the department in the form of administrative service.
Nonetheless, he has hailed the role played by the teachers in imparting capacity building.
The advisor has termed ‘unfortunate’ to note that the government had created so many schools without accountability, which has been accumulated over the decades. The advisor, however, informed that the department would redeploy teachers to schools, whose teachers were transferred.
On Wednesday, he visited the GHSS Zunheboto, GHSS Satakha and GHSS Chozuba. He also held a meeting with the civil society leaders and district administration at the DPDB hall in Zunheboto.
On his visits to schools, he encouraged the students to work hard and dream big stating that education is the only way to liberate them. He also appreciated the teachers and stated that they are the most unappreciated people even though they are building the human resource of the society.
Highlighting that there are 1939 government schools and 44 higher secondary schools, the advisor informed that the government would increase the numbers in order to improve foundational learning.
He has sought the support and cooperation of the local legislators and the public so as to work in tandem with the department. He has also highlighted the need to bring back the children to the government schools as teachers are better qualified.
During the meeting held at DPDB hall in Zunheboto, the deputy commissioner of Zunheboto, Rahul Mali, has highlighted challenges faced in the district with regards to the Zunheboto district.
Meanwhile, the president of Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU), Ghuvika Yeptho, appealed to the department to retain all the teachers, who were transferred to other places.
The president of NDPP Zunheboto region, Khehoshe Yeptho, has requested the department for posting of Hindi and Physical Education teachers in all the schools to enable Hindi language learning and promote sports.
Member of Sumi Kukami Hoho, Hetoka Yepthomi, has pointed out the need to provide school infrastructure for the students and teachers.
Meanwhile, the director of School Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe, stated that the department is one of the biggest departments and it requires proactive role of society. He has acknowledged SKK for sponsoring 20 students to take up Science education.
He maintained that education is the most evaluated department unlike other departments. Stating that the department is spending crores of rupees for the promotion of education, he urged the public to love the new generation teachers. He has also stressed on the need to improve enrollment in government schools.
The finance secretary of Sumi Hoho, Gokiho Jimomi, pointed out that there are many adhoc and contractual teachers whose services were not regularised even if they have served 10 years, which according to him, is a demotivating factor. He implored upon the government to take up the matter and recruit them on permanent basis to enable them teach with all sincerity.
Meanwhile, Veduta Thira, under secretary of School Education department, has highlighted the challenges faced by the department for regularisation of teachers. He, however, informed that the department is pursuing the matter to regularised them.
