ICAR official holds interactive session in Kiphire

DIMAPUR — The joint director of ICAR Nagaland, Dr. Homeswar Kalita, and scientist of Animal Science, Dr. Mahak, held an interactive session with farmers, officers, representative from NGO and FPO of Kiphire during his maiden visit to Kiphire district on August 25. The programme was organided jointly by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kiphire, and Atsitsa Large Area Multi Purpose Co-operative Society Ltd, (ALAMPCS), Kiphire.

Speaking at the session, Dr. Kalita, who was the special guest, appreciated the collaborative works undertaken by KVK which is benefitting large section of the farming community. He informed that he had come to Kiphire to understand the ground reality of the district in agriculture and allied sectors so as to plan the way forward.

An update from KVK Kiphire stated that Dr. Kalita has expressed satisfaction with the works carried out by KVK and different allied departments in a collaborative mode involving different stakeholders.

He also informed about the different activities being undertaken by ICAR Nagaland and assured to extend all possible help in days to come.

Speaking on behalf of the district administration, Longdiba Sangtam, SDO and nodal officer of aspiration district programme, stated that the state government is doing its best to uplift the livelihood of the farming community through the aspirational district programme. He encouraged the beneficiaries to make best use of the facilities and equipment provided to them.

He also lauded the effort of the KVK in bringing in farmer-friendly technologies basing on their specific problems and assured to extend all possible help to the department in near future.

Speaking on behalf of the society, Seroba Sangtam highlighted the genesis of the society and the various activities being undertaken by the society.

He informed that the society was formed with the initiative of Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung, senior scientist and head of KVK Kiphire. He has thanked all the partner departments for their support.

Short speeches were also delivered by Nzanthung Yanthan, DFO (Fishery); Janai Zeme, team leader of NFMP (Forest); Jubika, CEO of Orchid FPO; and Atsali, secretary of Likhaki Farming Society, Yingphire.

After the interaction programme, Dr. Kalita handed over diesel operated maize dehusker cum sheller and Pulviriser to Atsitsa Society funded by aspirational district programme followed with a live demonstration.

During the demonstration, Dr. Ezung informed that the machine has the ability to remove the husk and shell the maize at the same time with a capacity of 1500-2000 kg/hour. Stating that the machine would reduce the labour cost after harvest, he urged the maize farmers to avail the service through the society.

He also suggested for providing the machine under SMAM scheme of department of Agriculture.

It further stated Dr. Kalita also interacted with the deputy commissioner of Kiphire, John Tsulise Sangtam, and also visited Feed Mill established by KVK, Model Integrated Farming System-cum-pig breeding unit developed by KVK, which were both funded under CM corpus fund and KVK farm.
