People should grow beyond regional demands —Lt. Gen. HS Sahi
DIMAPUR — People should grow beyond the issues of regional demands, separate states, or countries, stated Lt. Gen. HS Sahi, AVSM, YSM, SM, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps, claiming that these are pulling back India.
He said this while addressing the flagging off ceremony of the 14 day National Integration Tour (NIT) for students of Nagaland at Rangapahar Military Station, Dimapur, on Wednesday.
He said that it has been over seven decades since the country got independence, but some issues still remain, which is a cause for concern for every Indian.
He said, “Why do we still have to follow what our grandparents and forefathers fought for?” He added that it is not desirable that the people have the same legacy as what happened in the last seven decades.
Stating that people should move forward with time, he advised the students that they should decide the future themselves and not follow people with selfish interests.
NIT for 19 students from Nagaland
The Assam Rifles is conducting a 14 day National Integration Tour (NIT) for 19 students (7 girls and 12 boys) of different age groups and two teachers from remote areas of Nagaland with the aim of providing the students with a kaleidoscopic view of the nation and enabling the young minds to be inspired by its rich cultural diversity.
Students aged 15 to 22 from the villages of Kigwema, Kezo, and Chakabama in Kohima district will have the opportunity to meet with the President of India at Rashtrapathi Bhavan as part of the tour.
They will also visit the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, witness soldier training at Kumaon and Naga Regimental Centre, Ranikhet, and visit several other places of interest.
The students will be travelling from Dehradun to Delhi on the Vande Bharat Express.
According to Sahi, the aim of organising the tour is not only specific to the Northeast but also to Jammu and Kashmir, where some people have not been able to see the rest of the country due to problems.
The tour is intended to instill in them a sense of belonging to India as much as everyone else in the country, he said, adding that they are the country’s future and thus must be exposed to its ideas and integrity.
