Two self-styled leaders apprehended in Karbi Anglong
DIPHU — Following a special search operation, two self-styled leaders of United Karbi People’s Front Liberation (UKPFL) were apprehended from Dikrenglangso area under Diphu police station on Monday. The search operation was led by Inspector JS Khobung, O/c Diphu Police Station along with IS Debo Konwar and personnel of Assam police battalion.
The two arrested are president, Harlongbi Engti alias M Kathar and secretary, Sarmon Hanse alias Chesong Ingjai.
The police also recovered 2 mobile handsets, 2 mobile batteries, wallet, earphones, cable wire, a damaged keypad phone which was used to demand money and 1 motor cycle B/R No. AS 09H-9884 (Pulsar).
Upon interrogation, the duo confessed on forming an extremist group with name ‘United Karbi People’s Front Liberation’ (UKPFL).
A demand letter with the letter pad of UKPFL was served to a teacher, Jirsong Terang of Ronghingchong, Diphu. The duo demanded an amount of INR 7 lakh for the purpose of purchasing arms for the organisation, police further informed.
