Weliso’s hat-trick powers Liangmai FC to semifinals
KOHIMA — Liangmai FC of Peren and Western Sumi Sports Association (WSSA) of Niuland advanced on Monday to the semifinals of the ongoing 7th edition of the Late Capt. N Kenguruse Mahavir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament, which is being held at IG Stadium in Kohima.
Liangmai FC dominated the first quarterfinal match, defeating Tiema-Khe Kidima of Kohima by a score of 6-1. Weliso scored three goals in the ninth, 45th, and 70th minutes to become the tournament’s second hat-trick scorer. Kenumdi and Wibonji also scored in the 43rd and 77th minutes to help Liangmai FC advance to the semis.
Kevisekho scored Tiema-Khe Kidima’s lone goal in the 67th minute.
WSSA won the second quarterfinal match against Medziphema Royals FC from Chümoukedima on penalties, 6-5, after a 1-1 draw in regulation time of 90 minutes.
Kevisanyu opened the scoring for WSSA in the 24th minute, and Diezevituo equalised for Medziphema Royals in the 66th minute. Medziphema Royals eventually had to concede to WSSA in the tie-breaker, losing by a single goal.
