Tree falls on auto-rickshaw in Diphu amid storm
DIPHU — Thunderstorm, accompanied by hailstorm, lashed areas of Diphu in Karbi Anglong, resulting in the uprooting of trees and damage to several houses.
The thunderstorm primarily occurred at 5th and 7th miles along the Diphu-Manja road, as well as in Taralangso and Hapjan.
Hailstones covered the ground at the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at 5th Mile along the Diphu-Manja road. It was reported that a tree fell on a parked auto-rickshaw in front of Assam Agriculture University—Regional Research Station (RRS), while a woman selling vegetables narrowly escaped injury.
The autorickshaw driver, identified as Ajit Chinthong, stated that he had parked his auto-rickshaw on the roadside and left for lunch when suddenly an uprooted tree fell on his autorickshaw, causing total damage.
A resident of Joysing Teron village reported that several houses, including his own, were damaged due to the thunderstorm.
