Sentinels Cup: Nagaland beat Meghalaya to enter semi-final
DIMAPUR — Nagaland women’s football team defeated Meghalaya 5-0 in the last league match on Friday to earn a semi-final berth in the ongoing Women Sentinels Cup at Sonitpur, Assam.
In the last match of Pool B, which was also the last league match of the championship, Neke Konyak scored a hat-trick, while Chimmushe and Watijungla scored a goal each for Nagaland, scripting a convincing win over Meghalaya.
After losing to Arunachal Pradesh 5-1, Nagaland’s women team defeated Mizoram 6-0 in the second match and then Meghalaya to progress to the semi-final as Pool B runners-up.
They will now take on Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR), the Winner of Pool A, in the semi- final on July 8.
Organised by the Assam Rifles, teams from North-eastern states, including Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, along with one team from the Director General Assam Rifles Women Football Team are taking part in the sporting event, informed an update.
Women’s football club “Naga Damsels” is representing the state at the first Sentinel NorthEast Cup 2024, it said, adding that the team is led by manager Viliebeizo Liezietsu and state coach Kevilebei Zashumo.
