DIMAPUR — Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma on Wednesday warned about the risk associated with technology, including misuse of personal data, despite everyday tasks being simplified and accessibility improved.
Speaking at the one-day Cyber Security Awareness programme organised by Nagaland University, Lumami, the DGP told the gathering to be wary of scammers, who try to lure unsuspecting individuals with false cash prize offers and other tricks, in order to avoid financial losses.
Regarding cyber security in Nagaland, he expressed the need to enhance infrastructure in order to thwart the threats, while adding that the Centre and state governments have taken up initiatives like establishment of cyber commandos for the police and the creation of cyber volunteers.
Resource person Rishamo Philip Yanthan, Deputy SP, Mokokchung, and former CBI Investigative Officer, “provided practical advice on maintaining cyber safety, such as using unique passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, securing devices, avoiding unnecessary apps, and being cautious with public Wi-Fi”.
Also speaking at the programme, Prof. Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of NU, underscored the need to spread awareness about cyber security issues.
