Rio apprises Shinde on Karbi-Rengma clash

Urges Railway Minister to intervene in State Railway projects

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 9

CHIEF Minister Neiphiu Rio apprised Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on the prevailing law and order situation arising out of the recent clashes between Karbis and Rengma Nagas in Karbi Anglong district of Assam.
At a meeting in New Delhi today, Rio informed Shinde that all possible steps are being taken to bring about normalcy between the two communities.The Union Home Minister, on his part, assured all possible security help to the state governments of Nagaland and Assam on the matter.
The matter relating to the pending reimbursement claims of the State government on Security Related Expenditures (SRE) was also discussed for early settlement of dues. This was stated in a release issued by Resident Commissioner Office, Nagaland House, New Delhi.
Rio was accompanied by State Home Minister G Kaito Aye and Planning and Coordination Minister TR Zeliang.
Zeliang urged the Union Home Minister for his intervention on the issue of the rights of the State government on petroleum and natural gas in the State.
Rio along with TR Zeliang also called on Union Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge today.
In the meeting, Rio urged the Railway Minister to intervene in the pending railway projects in Nagaland such as connectivity between Dimapur and Zubza and between Dimapur and Tizit.
The Railway Minister directed the Railway Board chairman to submit the status report on the pending projects.
The Railway authority informed Rio that the Railway Ministry has approved 16 km stretch from Dhansiri to Dimapur to connect Zubza for which the land plan has already been submitted to General Manager (Construction), NF Railways. This was done to avoid track passing through township area.
Resident Commissioner, Nagaland House, New Delhi, Jyoti Kalash was also present in the meetings.
