A book ‘Digital discourse in religious conflict’ released at CTC
Clark Theological College (CTC) on Sunday launched a book titled “Digital discourse in religious conflict: A postmodern reading” written by Dr. Tinumeren Ozükum during a programme held at the college’s multi-purpose hall. The book was released by the college’s principal, Prof. A Temjen Jamir.
In this book, the author surveyed the impact of social media on religious tolerance by undertaking case studies of digital discourse on religious conflicts in recent time.
Ozükum discussed the challenges of religious tolerance in social media and identified the nature and extent of social media sites and networks.
Theoretical work on postmodernism was studied because it encourages different and plural discourses that allow scholars to perceive more possibilities than a singular dominant discourse of modernity and objectivity.
With this, Dr. Tinu has proposed ‘a new paradigm risk-taking journalism as a new paradigm.’
“Purpose of risk-taking journalism is to establish peace and contribute to the liberation of all people and promote life,” the author said.
Scholars who are passionate about digital religious studies, who are interested in investigating online narratives of identity and religion and raise pertinent questions such as ‘Does it provoke tolerant or intolerant reactions? How does the digital content created and shared by citizens define and promote the interreligious dialogue?.
‘Digital discourse in religious conflict: A postmodern reading’ is the ideal blend of the global, national and local focus. The book was published by Tribal Development and Communication Centre, Mokokchung.
It has to be mentioned that Dr. Tinumeren is a faculty at Clark Theological College in the department of Communication. He did his Bachelor of Divinity (BD) from Eastern Theological College, Jorhat, Assam, and Masters’ degree from Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai, and received his PhD in Communication from Friedrich-Alexander-University, Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany.
