Dimapur, March 28 (EMN): All Assam Manipuri Youths’ Association (AAMYA) imposed an indefinite counter bandh on NH-29 (Assam part) from March 27 against the extension of the bandh called by the Southern Angami Public Organisation (Sapo) along Nagaland part of the same highway.
AAMYA in press statement stated that the bandh has ‘stranded people, trucks and vehicles bound for Imphal, resulting in unbearable physical and mental torture and socio-economic crisis’.
AAMYA stated that it could not remain a ‘mute spectator when people are harassed for no good reason’.
It said that AAMYA had taken the step as a ‘distress call to Nagaland Govt. that is still remaining silent.’
However, students going for exams, ambulances with patients, police and paramilitary forces on duty, press/ media, religious and marriage ceremonial parties have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.
