Abu designated as ambassador of St. Joseph Palliative Care Nagaland
DIMAPUR — Advisor to Chief Minister and chairman of Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Abu Metha, has been designated as the ambassador of St. Joseph Palliative Care Nagaland during a ceremony held on Thursday.
A DIPR report stated that Metha acknowledged the privilege and honour of undertaking the role and thanked the Catholic community for entrusting him with the responsibility. He called for collective efforts in serving the community and fostering an environment of generosity and charity.
Highlighting the Catholic community’s pivotal role in education and healthcare in Nagaland, Metha urged the Naga society to appreciate their contributions. He reminisced about his school days at Little Flower School in Kohima and acknowledged the institution’s role in shaping his life.
He also mentioned that successful sons and daughters in Naga society are from Catholic institutions.
Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, bishop of Kohima and chairman of St. Joseph Pain & Palliative Care Centre, defined the care centre as a multi-disciplinary medical specialty aiming to enhance the quality of life for individuals facing serious or life-threatening illnesses. According to him, it encompasses emotional, physical, and spiritual needs, considering the well-being of both the patient and their family.
It mentioned that St. Joseph Palliative Care Centre, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, on April 24, 2022, was constructed with support from the Italian Bishops Conference and local resources. The centre’s services focus on a five-pronged approach including comprehensive inpatient care, home care, family member training for terminally ill patients, skill-building for primary caregivers, and awareness initiatives.
