Mokokchung, Feb 14 (EMN):
The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Mangkolemba, Dharam Raj, has issued a travel advisory after three persons died in an unfortunate road accident involving a Mokokchung-bound Tata Sumo from Dimapur and a scooty at Dhodar Ali (between Mariani and Golaghat) in Assam on Monday.

It is reported that the scooter driver’s mother, daughter and son-in-law died on the spot.

In view of the tensed situation prevailing in the area following road blockage and protest by the locals in Mariani, the ADC advised all the Nagaland-bound/originating travellers via Assam to avoid taking the said route until the situation calms down.

“Further, all the Mokokchung-bound travellers may take the Golaghat-Merapani-Champang-Sonowal route to avoid unnecessary harassment in Mariani, Assam,” read the advisory.

Meanwhile, the ADC of Mangkolemba informed Eastern Mirror that the accident was caused by mechanical failure and over speeding.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident has been arrested and is under Mariani police custody, he informed, adding that the passengers of the Tata Sumo had safely returned to Nagaland.

“Mariani Police OC has informed that the situation is under control now; Nagaland-bound vehicles are allowed to pass,” he said.

However, he advised the commuters to take precautions while travelling via Assam ‘since the situation is still tense’.
