DIMAPUR — Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma (PMV scheme) onboarding programmee for Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts was held at the DPDB Hall in the office premises of the deputy commissioner in Chümoukedima on Thursday.

Speaking at the programme, the advisor of Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, highlighted about the registration for PM Vishwakarma scheme and explained about its benefit.

Jakhalu mentioned that the scheme aims to provide comprehensive support including training, technology, credit and market access to enhance their skills and livelihood for artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 trades.

The trades include carpenter, boat maker, armourer, blacksmith, hammer and tool kit maker, locksmith, sculptor (idol, stone craver, stone breaker), goldsmith, potter, cobbler, mason, basket/mat/broom/ coir weaver, doll and toy maker, barber, garland maker, washerman, tailor and fishing net maker.

She mentioned that the scheme envisages recognising artisans and craftspeople through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID.

The scheme included skill upgradation through basic training lasting 5 to 7 days, followed by advanced training of 15 days with a daily stipend of INR 500. Participants would also receive toolkit incentives, collateral-free credit support allowing loans up to INR 3 lakh in two installments, incentives for digital transactions and market support.

As Naga people lack business management skills, Jakhalu stated that she would personally oversee the implementation of the scheme particularly in the three districts.

During a presentation on PM Vishwakarma, the team lead of the state project management unit, Yithule Krichena, shared that Nagaland has registered a total of 20,522 individuals under the scheme. He informed that out of 1,250 villages, only 271 have been onboarded onto Gram Panchayats (GP).

Besides, he also mentioned that a total of 614 artisans have received basic training, while 82 loans were disbursed and 11 government training institutes are operating across 7 districts.

PM Vishwakarma is a central sector scheme launched on September 17, 2023, by the Prime Minister to provide end-to-end support to artisans and craftspeople, who work with their hands and tools, collectively known as Vishwakarmas.
