KOHIMA — Kudecho Khamo, Advisor for the Civil Administration Works Division and Taxes, called the conduct of the urban local body (ULB) election in Nagaland one of the biggest achievements of the 14th house of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA).

He made this statement during a thanksgiving programme for NDPP candidate for Ward 15 and Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) councillor Ketousie Khamo, who emerged victorious uncontested in the recently concluded ULB election.

Addressing the programme at Corragio School in Kohima, the advisor said that, in accordance with the “will and wishes” of the Nagas, the government implemented the Nagaland Municipal Act, following which the ULB election was conducted.

He stated that the town and municipal councils will act as the extended hand, legs, eyes, and mind of the government, working on behalf of the government for the welfare of wards and colonies.

He said that the NDPP’s victory in 153 wards proves that the party and its leadership have the support and mandate of the people and added that the town and municipal councils in place will advance the interests of the Nagas. He urged people to cooperate with and support the government.

Councillor Ketousie, in his speech, expressed gratitude to the well-wishers for their support and added that they would work together towards greater heights.

Tsiepfutsiepfhe Council Chairman Khotuo Khamo emphasised that the main focus should be on community interests and uplifting the weaker sections of society. He added that prioritising the development of human resources is essential, as infrastructural development alone cannot drive progress.

He cautioned the councillor about bogus clubs and civil society organisations that might seek his favour. He advised him to distinguish between them and ensure that he works for the development and interests of the larger society.

He further urged the councillor to advocate for women’s and children’s rights and to support youth in their entrepreneurial endeavours.
