Advocacy and strategy development meeting held in Jalukie

DIMAPUR — Children’s Parliament Initiative-II under the aegis of Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) organised a district-level advocacy and strategy development meeting with the stakeholders-cum-election of the Peren district-level children’s parliament on August 25 at St. Xavier parish jubilee hall in Jalukie town.

Speaking at the meeting, TL Kiusumong Tikhir, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Jalukie, stated that young age is an important stage where one should develop good values and spirit.

“As a Naga, we all go through different circumstances but we should know how to compete and know the value that is within us,” Tikhir said.

He also mentioned that one must have the habit of reading adding as a child one should pick good habits to grow a good fruit, Pointing out that Children’s Parliament is a privilege for a child in the present situation, he said one should take active part in its various initiatives and build leadership skills for empowering oneself, an update from DAN stated.  

The guest speaker, Atu Zumvu, who is also the sub-divisional police officer and head of the District Special Juvenile Police Unit (DSJPU), Peren, spoke on “Scope for children’s participation for child rights protection in relation to cybercrime.”

Ekonthung Kikon, child development project officer (CDPO) of Social Welfare department, Jalukie, spoke on “Scope for children’s collaboration with the social welfare to safeguard child rights,” and Hoineichin Singson, social worker of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Peren, spoke on “Scope for children’s participation in DTTC for control of tobacco consumption by children in the district.”

It stated that the programme began with an invocation by Rev. Father Martin, vice principal of St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Jalukie, and Jiji Joseph, senior programme officer of DAN, delivered the welcome address and shared about the strategy for district-level children’s parliament.

The programme was attended by the stakeholders and mentors along with the children’s parliament representatives from 10 institutions and five neighbourhood children’s parliaments.
