Dimapur, July 7 (EMN): In pursuance to achieve the national target ‘Food for all by 2025,’ the director of Agriculture, government of Nagaland, M Ben Yanthan has called upon the agriculture officials to rededicate themselves to strengthen the agriculture production in the state.

Yanthan stated this while addressing a one-day training and awareness programme on scaling up of lowland paddy held at its directorate on July 7. Yanthan stated that the government of India had introduced a new scheme under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) in order to enhance food production in the state. Stating that Nagaland has only few crops for production on commercial basis, Yanthan encouraged the concerned farmers to undertake production of such items on large scale in order to meet the target set by the government.

Yanthan also acknowledged that the RKVY scheme was a new scheme designed towards attaining sufficiency in production of essential commodities under RKVY. Also stating that only few crops could be cultivated on commercial production, the director encouraged the agriculture officials to rededicate and strengthen themselves to achieve food sufficiency.

Yanthan further informed that Wokha and Mokokchung districts have only two Covid-19 care centres while the remaining eight SDAO divisions that is Niuland, Baghty, Mangkolemba, Jalukie, Naginamora, Tuli, Medziphema and Tizit for lowland paddy.

During the training, the keynote implementation of the scheme was delivered by Letkholal Hangsing, joint director of Agriculture (planning). He emphasised on the guidelines of the implementation of the new programme scheme under RKVY.

Joint director, Letkholal, also stressed on the importance of achieving self-sufficient production. He also encouraged the agriculture officials to uphold their duties as they go back to their respective areas to improve the agri-allied sectors.
