All India Football Federation names junior girls’ championship after Dr. T Ao
DIMAPUR — The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has decided to honour the first captain of Indian Olympic football team, Dr. T Ao, by naming the Junior National Girls’ Championship after him.
This decision was relayed by the AIFF to all its member associations in a letter issued on Wednesday.
“We are pleased to inform you of an important decision made during the AIFF executive committee meeting followed by the AIFF annual general meeting, held on the 10th of September 2024 in Hyderabad.
“It was unanimously decided that the Junior National Girls Championship will now be named in honour of the first captain of the Indian Olympic football team (1948), Late Dr. T. Ao. This renaming is a tribute to Late Dr. T. Ao’s outstanding contributions to Indian football,” the letter read.
The federation sought for support and active participation from its units “in the upcoming tournaments under this new title”.
