All India Police Band Competition kicks off in Chümoukedima
DIMAPUR — The 25th All India Police Band Competition commenced on Monday, with the Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, gracing the opening ceremony at the Drill Square, Assam Rifles Training Centre and School, Shokhuvi, Chümoukedima.
Addressing the gathering, Ganesan said that the event celebrates not only the musical prowess of the police bands but also the spirit of unity, discipline, and dedication exhibited by their armed police forces.
Ganesan stated that military and police bands have been a cornerstone of military tradition for centuries, serving multiple roles beyond music. He added that they play a crucial part in military structure, communication, morale, and national identity.
He mentioned that the 25th All India Police Band Competition should not only be a showcase of musical talent but also a testament to the hard work and commitment of the police personnel.
The governor added that each band must have dedicated countless hours to practice in order to achieve perfection. Therefore, this event is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the importance of music in enhancing the morale and spirit within their police force.
He urged all the participants to embrace the spirit of competition with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. While winning is undoubtedly a goal, the true essence of this event lies in forging bonds of friendship and encouraging participants to share those stories through their music.
Delivering the welcome address, Additional Director General of Assam Rifles, Major General Jai Singh Bainsla, said that the Assam Rifles, also known as the sentinels of the northeast, is distinguished by its unique blend of military prowess and community engagement.
He added that the Assam Rifles is always the first responder in the case of any natural or man-made calamities or accidents, providing resources to the affected population.
He stated that there is more to a police band than meets the eye, as it plays a crucial role in fostering community relations and enhancing the image of the uniformed forces.
Bainsla mentioned that this competition, over the next three days, will witness participation from 25 teams representing 16 states, two union territories, six central armed police forces, and the Assam Rifles.
The teams will compete in three categories: pipe band, brass band, and buglers. The two best conductors in each category of brass band and pipe band will also be felicitated.
Eight teams of Mahila pipe bands and two teams of Mahila brass bands will also compete for the titles.
