DIMAPUR — The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has refuted allegations levelled against it in a petition filed with the Delhi High Court, asserting the claims lack merit.

The petition, scheduled for a hearing on December 11, 2024, reportedly raises concerns about the NDPP’s legitimacy. However, the party maintained that these allegations are a rehash of a 2018 complaint filed with the Election Commission of India (ECI).

“However, the ECI after hearing the matter in 2019 and after hearing the arguments of both parties and after thorough deliberation and verification had dismissed the matter since the allegations raised had no merit”, it said in a statement issued on Sunday.

“The NDPP through this statement puts on record that the allegations raised by the petitioner are without any merit and hold no water,” it said.

The party stated that since its formation in 2017, it has secured victories in two state assembly elections, two Lok Sabha elections, several bye-elections as well as the recent local body polls.

“When the NDPP has already contested and won the required number of seats in all the elections conducted by the ECI and the State Election Commission (SEC), the issue of de-recognition or de-registration now does not hold any water since the NDPP is a registered and recognised political party under the ECI which is the sole authority in registering and recognising political parties in India”, it asserted.

The NDPP further noted that the initial High Court hearing was postponed because the petitioner’s representatives had failed to show up, “which proves that they themselves are aware that the case is without any merit.”

“As and when the hearing does happen, the NDPP is confident that the case will be dismissed by the Delhi High Court just as it was dismissed in the court of the ECI once the facts and figures are placed before the Honourable High Court”, it added.

“The NDPP respects the Honourable Court and trusts the Indian judiciary, that justice will be delivered without any biasness whatsoever and that the stand of the NDPP will be vindicated.”
