Dimapur, Aug. 18 (EMN): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has expressed empathy with the business community of Dimapur, especially those from three markets — New Market, Hazi Park and Hongkong Market — which have been shut down for almost five months now.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the CNCCI stated that the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) had already requested the state government to allow the reopening of New Market, Hazi Park and Hongkong Market but the authorities are yet to respond to the appeal.

Stating that “thousand of business establishment in these markets are on the verge of collapse as no business can survive months of continuous closure”, the CNCCI has expressed its support with the DCCI and demanded the government to ‘immediately address the DCCI’s demand and allow these markets to start functioning by empowering the Dimapur district task force to work out modalities to open those market as per SOPs issued by the state government’.

The CNCCI further appealed to the government to give more human touch in its policies and approach as Covid-19 pandemic has become a humanitarian crisis beyond comprehension.

It also reminded the government about the appeal letter dated 24 April 2020, requesting for exemption of shop rent. In this connection, ‘it has demanded that all shops and business establishments in government-owned properties, including all other government-funded agencies properties, such as the marketing complex under various towns and cities be exempted from paying rent for minimum period of three months’.

The CNCCI went on to express its confidence that the state government would “take immediate action as a matter of urgency on genuine appeal made by the business community”.
