APHLC president accused government of unfair practices
DIPHU — President of All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) and intending candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, JI Kathar, has expressed discontentment over the appointment of the executive officer of the Haflong Municipal Board under the department of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Briefing media persons in Diphu on March 23, Kathar has termed the appointment ‘unconstitutional and abrogation of the Sixth Schedule constitution.” Kathar alleged that the Government of Assam has appointed some officers from the Assam Urban Administrative Service and posted them directly to the town committees and municipality in Dima Hasao District, which was unconstitutional and in aberration to the MoU signed in 1995.
“Posting the Assam administrative officer directly by the Assam government to the town committees and municipality board is unconstitutional and abrogation of the Sixth Schedule and constitution. In the Constitution, it is said that under paragraphs 1 and 20 of the Six Scheduled, it is the tribal areas and tribal people can elect. This kind of work has to be done by the autonomous council,” Kathar said.
Kathar also accused the BJP, who are in power, of diluting and destroying the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
“The BJP does not care about the hill people and tribes people. BJP is only for the high-caste people. If I’m elected as a Member of Parliament, I will fight it out in the parliament,” Kathar added.
